Drive-Thru Rescue (Jadey Price)

Jadey's mom shared this story with me:

We parked by a drive through and Jadey jumped out of the car while I was on the phone. I looked to see what she was doing. The lady paying at the drive through had dropped a bill. It was blowing away. Jadey ran and grabbed it. She returned it to the lady and informed me it was a $50 bill.

Cookie Deliveries (by Kari Wendt)

The 3rd ward had a great Mia Maid activity last night. The girls decorated cookies and then took them around to families in our ward including some new families that just moved in and they didn't know. I thought it was good that they brightened some people's day (well, night).  In fact, they even invited out a new family to church and told them what time church started. I was so proud of them and it was a lot of fun!

Taking Care of Grandma (by Natasha Schartz)

A while back ago my mom had to take care of my grandma for my aunt Claudia.... My mom has been doing this for the past-- I don't know how many days-- but she is amazing. One day she was so tired and she just wanted to sleep. I went down stairs to tell her something and she then just realized that she was a couple minutes late to take care of my grandma. As she was telling me this I told her to go to bed and I will go over and take care of grandma.  She said "no I'm ok" and "thanks for asking."  Being the person that I am I told her to lay her little bum down and go to sleep and I will take care of her.  She was about to say something and I just ignored her and I left.  She went to bed and I headed to my grandmas house. I came home and my mom came up to me and she gave me a great big hug and said "thank you for taking care of grandma your an amazing daughter. I LOVE YOU!!!!"  I am so happy that I did that for my mom because she really needed the sleep.  She is such an amazing mom that she does everything for me and my family, and I decided to do something for her.

Cats Need Love Too (by Kimberly Clark)

One act of service that stands out in my mind was when a good friend of mine called and needed me to come over and examine a wound on her cat. I am a Veterinary Technician and work many long hours taking care of injured and sick animals. This particular day I was over 1 1/2 hrs late from work and it had been and especially exhausting and trying day. She had called me earlier and I had not had time to call her back. I called her when I clocked out, came home, took a couple of my children with me and went to see what was wrong. I spent a wonderful time enjoying my friends company and helping to bandage a wound on her little cats leg. What a great moment in time, I was doing the things that I love most, spending time with those I love. serving them and loving an animal.

Lots of Service Moments! (by Jordan Clark)

I painted my moms toenails after I rubbed her feet.  

I also mowed the lawn for my older brother. 

Later on I helped my grandma take her canned tomatoes in her house and I did the same thing for my mom later that day. 

A little while later I helped my mom peel and can pears with some other siblings. 

After that I picked up the backyard so the sprinklers could go on without any bikes , toys or other objects stop it from hitting all the spots on the lawn. 
When school started I comforted my cousin after she lost her pet hamster.

In the Life of a College Student... (by Anna Isle)

 

I made my roommate Abby's bed for her and cleaned up some stuff on her side of the room while she was out of town.

I did the dishes for all the girls in my apartment.

Organized the silverware drawer to make it easier for everyone. 

Took out all the trash from the apartment. 

I did Abby's laundry while she was out of town. 

I opened the door for someone at the bank. 

I organized my and my roommates vanity mirror area. 

Did my friend Ashley's hair for her. 

Let Abby use my straightener until her parents sent her hers. 

I have let my roommates use my printer for school work. 

I let Abby use a shirt for her to use on her first day of work since she had no clean clothes

When Abby ran out of shampoo I let her use mine until she could go to the store and get her own. 

I attempted to donate blood but I didn't weigh enough (not sure if that counts)  :)

Friendship Bracelets! (by McKensie Oliver)

McKensie Oliver has been making friendship bracelets to donate to a place "where kids need something to cheer them up."  (What a great idea!)  She said, "I want to make some little kid's day much better."  :)  She has made 25 bracelets so far and will make 100 by the end of this challenge.  (Keep up the great work!!!)

Serving in Times of Need (Anonymous)

A woman in my ward was having a hard time getting a baby sitter and she needed to go to a really important meeting, so I stopped what I was doing so I could watch her child.

My mom got really sick and my dad was up in SLC in meetings. I was able to take care of her until my dad got home. My mom was sick [again] today (Sunday) so I made dinner for her. I loved being able to give her back some service to her because she has served me in so many ways through out my life.

Blessings of Service (Sis. Stacy Goulding)

I had a wonderful time at camp, but I came home absolutely exhausted. I had hoped to spend the next week relaxing with my husband, instead I had several opportunities to serve. I fulfilled a ward canning assignment, babysat my neighbor's kids, served food at a wedding, and helped a ward member move. I felt a bit overwhelmed by it all, especially for being away from my husband more, but I was richly blessed. Out of the blue, I was offered a job I really wanted. It was an unexpected opportunity that will help further my career. It never ceases to amazing me how when we sacrifice and serve the Lord He's right there to bless us in return 10 fold. Not only that, but these opportunities to serve help us become the women the Lord wants us to be. I'm one blessed woman.

While on our vacation in St George, my son, Jeff,  asked me if I would cut his hair...My husband also wanted a trim...so does that count as one or two acts of service? (smile) It's always such a blessing to cut my son's or husband's hair because I get to catch up on their lives while I cut, cut, cut!  It never fails-- that I get more out of serving than those that I serve!

"I washed all of the lost and found items from camp before I took them back to the girls to have them go through them. I didn't think it was a big deal until they went through them and they were grateful for it." :]

"I delivered some of the veggies from my garden to some people in my ward who don't have a garden or I knew that some of their plants died so I gave them some of that type of veggie from garden (and no not all of them were zucchini." :] )

I asked my friend's cousin who came alone to the singles ward to come sit with me and a friend and talked with her and got to know her. 

I helped my friend's mom get make dinner for my friend's mission call opening party. 

I sanded my friend's woodshop project (entertainment center) before he went out to start so he could just go straight to staining the wood.

Searching for a Cell Phone (by Bree Toone)

I had the opportunity to visit Yellowstone this week and enjoy the beautiful sights and wildlife.  While I was waiting in line at one of the lovely outhouses (gross) I noticed a girl about my age come running up to get in line.  She was after me, but when it was my turn she quickly jumped ahead and asked if she could go in first. Then she explained that she had left her cell phone in there earlier and wanted to check to see if it was there. Of course I let her go in.  Unfortunately, the phone wasn't there and she left with a sad look on her face.  After I took my turn in the outhouse and was meeting up with my family, I noticed this same girl pacing back and forth near the outhouses.  She did not speak English very well and that presented another difficulty in her situation.  While my family began walking towards the trailhead, I asked the girl if I could help in some way.  She still couldn't find her phone and she was a little panicky.  I told her we could try to call it and see if someone answered.  Maybe someone took if out of the bathroom with the intention to contact her and give it to her?  My phone didn't have service so I asked my dad if we could use his phone to call this girl's number. She slowly told me the numbers and I tried calling but my dad's phone didn't have good service.

He had his other work phone in the car and suggested maybe that service would be better.  So the 3 of us walked to the other end of the parking lot in hopes of calling her phone and finding a solution to her problem.  I called and called again but it only went straight to voice mail-- probably because her phone didn't have good service there either.  I tried to explain in simple, clear words that we were unable to reach her phone and didn't know how else to help.  She thanked us with a huge smile on her face and was very grateful for our help-- even though we really didn't do much to get the phone back.  I prayed and prayed and thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if suddenly I just saw the phone on the ground or something?"  Well, that didn't happen... and I don't know if the girl ever found her phone.  But I recognized the opportunity to serve by simply showing concern and letting her know she wasn't alone.  This experience taught me that I can definitely find ways to do 100 acts of service in the next 4 months.

Lakeridge Stake Girls Camp 2012

Thank you to everyone who contributed to an amazing week of camp!!  It was so much fun and we LOVED serving, laughing, singing, hiking, and playing with you. :)  Let us continue to spread that cheerful Girls Camp spirit in the months ahead. This blog is an opportunity to share your experiences as you set out to accomplish the goal of completing 100 acts of service by the end of the year!  Remember, these acts of service can be small and simple-- anything to brighten someone's day or lift their burden.  Send an e-mail to Incredigirl2012@gmail.com to share your experience with us.
